1974 Ampeg B-115 2-Channel 1×15″ 120 Watts Bass Combo Amp
Up for sale, here’s one of the best kept secrets in studio recording bass amps, an incredible, rare to find Ampeg B-115 Bass combo made in USA during the Magnavox era, in Very Good+ condition. Not to be confused with the later and current BA-115 models, this B-115 is an entirely different animal.
It is essentially a solid state version of the famous B-15N Flip Top, and while it sounds different from the iconic B-15, which is known mainly for its midrange focus and tube character, the B-115 sounds fuller and bigger, delivering 120 watts RMS through a ported 1×15″ cabinet. Unlike many modern solid state and Class D amps, it has a fast transient attack while keeping plenty of dynamic range and REAL wattage with plenty of headroom, uncompressed.
Built like a tank, the B-115 shares much of its architecture with the B-15 and SVT. Its two channel design allows you to bridge both channels and take advantage of the two parallel signals, and the preamp output on the back panel sounds incredible, truly studio quality. The main key is in the high quality transformers and components, something isn’t common these days in modern sold state amps.
The amp is all original with the exception of two tasteful upgrades. The speaker has been replaced with a really nice original 1965 Ampeg CTS 15″ speaker taken from a mid ‘65 Ampeg B-15, adding a touch of that classic Ampeg vintage voice, and the amp has been re-grilled with a 1970s SVT style pattern that looks stunning and classy compared to the original black with white piping. The original white piping is still present, as is the Ampeg badge logo. The only other change is a three prong power cord, replaced for safety reasons. Other than that, the amp is all original and sounds massive, incredibly well.
The amp is in great shape for its age, with the carpet in great condition overall, and it comes with caster wheels. It has been really well preserved and is ready to be played for many years to come.
As you can imagine, local pickup in LA is much preferred, although shipping to the continental US is an option. Feel free to check our reviews. The amp will be professionally double boxed, packed and fully insured. Please keep in mind this takes a lot of time, dedication and good quality packing supplies for an item like this, which is fairly heavy and delicate, hence the shipping cost.
